Former Zimbabwean cricketer and Punjab Kings assistant coach, Andy Flower, is highly likely to become the head coach of the newly-added franchise, Lucknow, in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Flower was the assistant coach of Punjab until the IPL 2021 season. He sent in his resignation a few weeks ago and it was accepted.

He sent his resignation to the team recently. It has been accepted. There is a good chance that he goes to one of the new teams (Lucknow or Ahmedabad),” a BCCI official had told PTI.

Now that he is free to work, Flower can become the next head coach of Lucknow. Flower has the advantage among a few candidates because of his excellent rapport with KL Rahul, who is expected to be bought by the Lucknow franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Here’s what a team official said about the head coach being Andy Flower:

We have been hearing a lot of names. Only today someone wrote that Gary Kirsten is also becoming the coach. We are in talks with a few, but unless someone signs for us, we cannot confirm,” the official was quoted as saying to PTI.
