Madhya Pradesh fast bowler Avesh Khan has revealed how Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant was instrumental in getting him his big break in the Indian Premier League in IPL 2021 edition. This edition proved to be a life-changing one for Avesh, as he ended up as the second-highest wicket-takers in the tournament.

In the first match itself, against Chennai Super Kings, the right-arm pacer dismissed Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni as two big wickets and went on to add another 22 to finish with a total of 24 wickets in IPL 2021. Not only this, but Avesh Khan also made his India debut this year after a successful outing for the Delhi Capitals who made it into the playoffs of the IPL 2021 edition.

However, Delhi Capitals (DC) will not have his services in the IPL 2022 tournament as Avesh Khan was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 10 crores.

Rishabh Pant Told Me ‘You Have Only 2 Matches To Prove Yourself’- Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan, in an interview with Boria Majumdar for his show ‘Backstage with Boria’, revealed how Rishabh Pant took a chance on him despite him being with the DC franchise for three years and only getting two matches.

“IPL 2021 was wonderful for me because I ended as the second-highest wicket-taker. Before that, I was with the Delhi Capitals for three years but I did not get many opportunities. In 2 years, I had played just 2 matches, and I couldn’t get a chance to show my talent. But last year, when Rabada and Nortje were unavailable for the first two matches and Ishant picked up an injury, so he too could not play,” Avesh told Boria Majumdar.

“Ricky Ponting showed faith in me and as did Rishabh. He backed me a lot and said to me ‘You have only these two matches to prove yourself. After that you’ll have to create a place of your own with your own efforts’,” he added.

The IPL 2022 will begin on March 26 with CSK taking on KKR in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
