The BCCI has been trying everything in its power to ensure that the IPL 2022 season can be held in India despite a large number of active covid-19 cases in the country.

The IPL 2021 season was moved to the UAE because of the pandemic. Earlier, there were reports stating that South Africa and Sri Lanka were being considered as possible venues should the pandemic state remain the same.

Now, things are slowly getting better with certain limitations being relaxed across the country. However, hosting a league where the crowd capacity will be maximum will still be tough for the BCCI.

At the time being, their main priority is to ensure it can be held in India. There were certain reports that also claimed that the league stage can be held in Maharasthra while the playoffs and the final could be played in Ahmedabad.

BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, has also asserted that the board will continue to ensure the league stays in the country but also assured that there will not be any compromises on the health and safety protocols.

I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India. The BCCI has not compromised on the health and safety of its stakeholders in the past and will concurrently work on Plan B since the COVID-19 situation with new variants remains fluid. The mega IPL Auction will take place on February 12-13th and we will lock in venues before that,” Shah had stated.

As of now, the auction will take place in Bengaluru in which 590 players will be up for grabs.
