CSK vs KKR: 'MS Dhoni's Mindset Hasn't Changed Since 2007': Virender Sehwag Lauds Former Chennai Super Kings Skipper

MS Dhoni stepped down as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain ahead of his team’s IPL 2022 campaign opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 26. He passed the captaincy baton to Ravindra Jadeja. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK has won four IPL titles with the latest of them coming in 2021 when they beat KKR in the final.
Over the years, MS Dhoni have made mediocre bowlers look as matchwinners with the way he has handled them in the XI. A very evident example of that is Deepak Chahar, who will, unfortunately, miss out on the majority of the season due to injury. He made Chahar bowl three overs upfront inside the powerplay given how he swung the ball. Sometimes he would complete his quota of overs within the powerplay himself.
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has also praised Dhoni for the way he used his players citing the example of Chahar. More often than not, Chahar delivered for the Super Kings with crucial wickets in the opening overs of the game.
“This is what makes MS Dhoni special. In any other franchise, if he had taken two wickets in his first two overs, the captain would think, ‘I should save him for the final overs’. But in the end, it doesn’t matter if you’re a Bumrah, a Chahar, a Rabada or a Nortje, you will get hit,” Sehwag said to Cricbuzz
He further said that more than Chahar delivering every time he was given the ball. the credit goes to MS Dhoni for using him in the manner that he did.
“So, that is where Dhoni utilised Chahar really well. Sometimes, he had also completed his full quota of four overs up-front. So the credit goes to MS Dhoni as well” Sehwag further said.
The former Indian opener concluded by saying that Dhoni’s approach has not changed since 2007 when he first took over as India captain.
MS Dhoni Preferred Bowlers Who Were Accurate: Virender Sehwag
“Since Dhoni was named the captain of India, he was very clear; he didn’t want bowlers bowling at 150 kph and conceding runs. He would rather prefer bowlers who bowl slow but are more accurate; those who could create more chances. This has been MS Dhoni’s mindset since 2007,” Sehwag concluded saying.
