CSK vs MI: Irrespective Of Wicket, Anything Below 130 Is Difficult To Defend - MS Dhoni After CSK Crash Out Of IPL 2022
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni expressed disappointment in the batting lineup after they folded up cheaply for 97 in a must-win game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
After being put in to bat first, CSK was jolted early by the pace trio of Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah, and Riley Meredith. They were reduced to 39/6 in no time with hopes hinging on Dhoni himself.
However, he tried his best to dig CSK out of the hole but eventually ran out of partners. Dhoni ended as the top-scorer with 36 but the target was nowhere close to enough as MI chased it down with more than five overs to spare.
“Irrespective of how the wicket is, anything below 130 is difficult to defend. I asked the bowlers to show a lot of character, put the opposition under pressure and forget about the result,” Dhoni was quoted as saying at the post-match presentation ceremony.
MI’s run chase wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreboard might suggest. They were also troubled by Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary who bowled beautifully with the new ball. The duo ended with combined figures of 4/46 in 8 overs but MI bided their time and finished the match to win by 5 wickets.
“I feel both the young fast bowlers bowled really well. As far as their contribution is concerned, I feel a game like this really helps them. It’s something that they start believing in themselves. Whenever we start, we need the same kind of attitude and that’s what is needed in the shortest format,” he added.
The loss has eliminated CSK from the IPL 2022 season and they will now be hoping to end on a good note and avoid the wooden spoon.
Final Scores:
CSK – 97 in 20 overs
MI – 103/5 in 14.5 overs
