CSK vs MI: Twitter Reacts As Mumbai Demolish Chennai In Lop-Sided El Clasico

Mumbai Indians (MI) won the famed El Clasico in convincing fashion and ended Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) slightest hopes of making it to the IPL 2022 playoffs.

The two teams battled it out at the Wankhede Stadium with CSK looking to avoid elimination while Mumbai was playing for pride. Rohit Sharma expectedly put in the opponents to bat first after winning the toss.

The first over of the day from Daniel Sams set the tone for Mumbai. He dismissed both Devon Conway and Moeen Ali inside four deliveries, with the former being involved in a rather controversial decision.

Jasprit Bumrah then dismissed Robin Uthappa in the very next over to reduce Chennai to 5/3. The pacers continued to dictate terms with Riley Meredith chiming in with a couple of wickets of his own.

The Yellow Brigade was then down to 39/6 with MS Dhoni left to provide a glimmer of hope. Unfortunately, wickets continued to tumble at the other end before Chennai eventually folded up for 97 in 16 overs.

There was a lot of assistance for the pacers in the pitch and the CSK pace duo of Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary bowled the first eight overs. They took turns to trouble the batters, eventually ending with combined figures of 4/46.

However, the target was too small to defend and a partnership brewed between Hrithik Shokeen and Tilak Varma, which helped Mumbai get over the line comfortably. With the defeat, the defending champs are also out of the competition in the group stages itself.
