The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pace bowler Avesh Khan was not part of the team’s playing XI in the 45th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, May 1.
The Madhya Pradesh pacer Avesh Khan had missed the match against Mumbai Indians on April 24 due to a niggle. However, he was part of the playing XI in Lucknow Super Giants’ next match against Punjab Kings on April 29.
Meanwhile, he was once again not part of the playing XI in the Indian Premier League 2022 battle between his current team, Lucknow Super Giants, and his former team, Delhi Capitals.
The Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul, at the toss, revealed the real reason behind Avesh Khan’s exclusion from the playing XI.
Didn’t want to play him back-to-back – KL Rahul on Avesh Khan
At the toss, Rahul said that Avesh will be replaced by Krishnappa Gowtham in the playing XI. He added that Avesh is coming from a small injury and they didn’t want to risk him by playing back-to-back games. He elaborated:
“Avesh Khan misses out and K Gowtham comes in. Avesh is just coming from a small injury, didn’t want to play him back-to-back. The pitch looks quite dry, they have a couple of left-handers in their team. A good match-up, we thought KG would be a good option for us.”
“Mistakes do happen no matter how long you play this game. We just had an honest chat and everybody realises that we could have been a little bit more smarter. It happens under pressure, just spoke about it and guys are honest enough to accept their mistake and they’ve learnt from it. Hopefully we can come out here and assess the conditions really well and play smart cricket,” Rahul added.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and opted to bat first and they fielded the playing XI with just one change. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals made no changes to the playing XI.
