DC vs LSG: We Have To Win Close Games - Rishabh Pant
Delhi Capitals lost yet another close game, by 6 runs, this time against Lucknow Super Giants as they couldn’t chase down 196 runs. Rishabh Pant was not a very happy captain as DC have lost 5 games out of the 9 they have played.
This loss might hurt their chances to qualify for the playoffs as the top two spots looked sealed by the two new franchises Gujarat Titans and LSG.
The Batters Need To Convert The Starts Into Big Scores: Rishabh Pant
Bowling first DC did well to restrict LSG to 195 as at one point it looked as if LSG would score anywhere close to 210 runs. DC would have fancied their chances to chase the target as the pitch was good and the DC openers were in fine touch.
But both Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got out inside the powerplay and that left DC in a spot of bother. Both Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant took in their hands and scored quickly but an error in judgement by March accounted for his wicket.
DC continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and in the end, it proved to be the main reason for their loss.
Pant after the game said, “I think it’s hard but we have to start winning close matches. We came close a few games but we are losing it.”
On the overall performance, he said, “Really happy that the bowlers pulled it back. But on these kind of wickets when the bowlers put up a helping hand, we got to perform as a batting unit as well. It was really nice to see the way Mitch (Marsh) was batting. But as a batting unit we need to start converting those 30s, and 40s into a big score. Hopefully, we can turn it around. As a team there are a lot of positives and there is not much to discuss but we would like to improve ourselves in the next game.”
The race for the playoff is heating up as the tournament enters its business end in a week’s time. 5 wins in 5 remaining games for DC might not guarantee DC a place in the last-4.
