DC vs MI: Suryakumar Yadav Continues Recovery At NCA, Unlikely To Play In Mumbai Indians' IPL 2022 Opener Against Delhi Capitals - Reports
Mumbai Indians’ explosive batter, Suryakumar Yadav, is highly likely to miss the franchise’s opening match against Delhi Capitals (DC), as per reports. He is still recovering from the thumb injury he picked up during the final T20I against West Indies.
Since then, Suryakumar has been out of action. He was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to undergo his rehabilitation period. According to ESPNcricinfo, he continues to stay there and hasn’t been released by the NCA.
MI’s auction may not have gone according to plans because they currently lack specialist Indian batters. Only Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are part of the squad and once they are done, MI only has inexperienced Indian batters to follow.
Therefore, Suryakumar’s presence is of paramount importance to keep the middle-order glued together and also provide the impetus in the middle-overs, something he is well-known for.
In the last season, he was their second-highest scorer, with 317 runs at an average of 22 and a mighty impressive strike rate of 143.43. Considering he can fulfill the role of an opener, anchor, or a finisher, MI will surely miss his services.
Heading into the mega auction, MI had retained Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard. They let go of all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who was struggling with fitness and form. He has been picked up by Gujarat Titans (GT).
