Former Indian player Sunil Gavaskar lauded Delhi Capitals spinner Kuldeep Yadav for bowling quick deliveries and not allowing batters to open their hands against him.

Kuldeep has been phenomenal with the ball since wearing the Capitals shirt this season and has no time to look back in the past. The left-arm wrist-spinner cleaned up Kagiso Rabada and Nathan Ellis in the space of three deliveries in the 14th over.

Kuldeep Yadav is currently the second-most wicket-taker in IPL 2022

Kuldeep finished with 2/24 from four overs to take his tally to 13 wickets in six games this season. He is four wickets behind his Indian spin twin Yuzvendra Chahal in the leading wicket-takers’ list of IPL 2022.

While analysing Kuldeep’s bowling, Gavaskar noticed that the spinner increased his bowling speed to deny batters any room to play a big shot.

“He is bowling a little quicker than last year. Last year he was bowling in the mid-70s, now he is at about 82-83. The delivery with which he got Ellis out was at 85kmph. So he is bowling it quicker,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“Earlier, even though batsmen got beaten off the pitch, they still had the time because of the slowness of the delivery to make any adjustments. Now, they don’t have that. He is quicker and (pitching the ball) a lot further up, not being afraid of being hit,” he added.

Delhi Capitals bowled Punjab Kings out for 115 with Axar Patel, Khaleel Ahmed and Lalit Yadav picking two wickets each. Left-arm pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman got the key wicket of PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal in his first over.

Delhi Capitals openers David Warner (41) and Prithvi Shaw (60*) got the team to a frolicking start with 81 runs in the powerplay as they chased the mere target in just 10.3 overs.

The Rishabh Pant & co will play against Rajasthan Royals on Friday (April 22) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
