Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pace bowler Josh Hazlewood praised Dinesh Karthik’s batting skills and said the wicketkeeper-batter is progressing with his age. Karthik has been phenomenal with his batting in the slog overs in IPL 2022.

The 36-year-old aggregates 197 runs in six innings this season for RCB, striking at 209.57. In a couple of instances, the RCB gloveman finished games for the team. It was nothing different in the match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday as Karthik slammed 66 runs in 34 balls, plundering five boundaries and as many sixes in the course of his whirlwind knock.

Dinesh Karthik is getting better with age: Josh Hazlewood

Karthik smashed Delhi Capitals pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman for 28 runs (four boundaries and a couple of sixes) in the 18th over. Hazlewood said Karthik’s knock against Delhi was unbelievable.

“It has been unbelievable. The time he (Dinesh Karthik) took to set himself and then exploded in the end, was unbelievable. He is getting better with age and he has been doing it in every game so it is awesome to watch. His knock was different tonight,” Hazlewood said in the post-match press conference.

Dragging momentum back in the middle overs was very important: Josh Hazlewood

Despite David Warner’s flying start for Delhi Capitals in the chase, RCB bowlers managed to keep the opposition at bay. Hazlewood, playing in his second game this season, claimed 3/28 as the best figures from his side. The Australian bowler credited Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel for bowling tight in the middle overs.

“I think in the middle overs, we had Hasaranga and Harshal bowling a few overs, just felt like the pressure was mounting on the opposition. Dragging momentum back in the middle overs was very important and obviously, we took some wickets in a row in the 14th-15th over, so it was a huge part from Hasaranga and Harshal,” Hazlewood mentioned.
