Rajasthan Royals won a close contest against Delhi Capitals here on Friday by 15 runs, and moved to the top of the points table. RR lost the toss but won the match. Their captain Sanju Samson didn’t seem to be fazed by losing tosses as RR have won a majority of the game when Samson has lost the toss.

The trend this season has been to win the toss and chose to field but RR is one team that despite losing tosses and batting first has won the majority of their games.

It Is Normal To Drop Catches: Sanju Samson

The game was closely contested, the result might not tell so, but DC was in the game for the most part of their chase. They needed 36 runs from the last two overs, but Prasidh Krishna bowled a wicket-maiden and brought the equation down to 36 off the last over. Rovman Powell was batting in the last over. Obed McCoy had the ball. The first three balls of the over went for three sixes, there was some hope in the DC camp, but then a controversy related to a waist height full toss changed everything. Powell couldn’t connect after the match got stopped for a couple of minutes.

Regardless of the last over, DC batters did well to keep their team in the game. David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and Lalit Yadav all played good knocks but none of them could carry on until the end overs.

Rishabh Pant got a chance when he was dropped by Yuzvendra Chahal but on the very next ball he got out courtesy of a brilliant catch by Devdutt Paddikal.

On Chahal dropping that catch, Samson, in the post-match presentation said, “It is normal to drop catches, even I dropped one in the last match. I told the players how to recover from that in the team meeting.”

On the controversy that erupted in the last over, he said: “It was a full toss and the batsman wanted a no-ball, but the umpire didn’t give it. We wanted to be around him (McCoy) and wanted to put a smile on his face. Not easy for a bowler after conceding three sixes. We wanted to change the plan so we took our time, to give the bowler a breather. The last game was a tough one, and this game too, with Powell hitting those sixes. It’s important to stay calm and trust your team mates.”

Jos Buttler scored his 3rd century of the season and Samson was praise for his opening batter, “Buttler has been playing well, and that’s a crucial part in this format.”

Rajasthan Royals despite this win would look to address the problem of their 5th bowler, Nathan Coulter Nile is not part of the squad anymore and Obey McCoy hasn’t looked at his best.
