Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowler Piyush Chawla said David Warner will have grudges while playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Delhi Capitals will lock horns with the Orange Army on Thursday at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The match will be the first instance of Warner playing against his former team after his unceremonious exit in IPL 2021.

After SRH lost momentum with successive defeats in the IPL 2021, Warner was sacked from captaincy and replaced by Kane Williamson. In the second phase of the tournament, the Australian batter was forced to the bench after poor returns with the bat.

Things exacerbated when Warner was cheering from the stands that hinted at his exit ahead of IPL 2022. It was inevitable that SRH released Warner while retaining Williamson along with a couple of uncapped players.

Warner was sold to Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 auction for a sum of INR 6.25 crore. The opening batter has scored 264 runs in seven innings, striking at 156.21, and forms a destructive pair with Prithvi Shaw at the top for Capitals.

Chawla believes the former SRH skipper will hold some bitter memories in mind while playing in Thursday’s clash.

“It will be exciting because the way things panned out the last time, he might carry some grudges while coming out to bat,” Chawla told ESPNCricinfo.

Warner left SRH after spending seven seasons with the franchise, where he led them to the title triumph in IPL 2016. SRH defeated RCB by eight runs in the final to clinch their maiden trophy in the lucrative tournament.

With 4014 runs in 95 IPL innings, Warner left SRH as their leading run-scorer of all time. Shikhar Dhawan (2518) is the second on the list while Williamson is placed third (2080).

Warner captained SRH in 67 IPL games having won 35 and lost 30 with a win percentage of 53.73. He missed the IPL 2018 season for SRH owing to a one-year ban from Cricket Australia after involvement in the infamous Sandpapergate scandal.
