Delhi Capitals opener David Warner believes that if his side has to qualify for the playoffs, the top-order needs to score runs heavily.

Warner said that one of Prithvi Shaw, him, or Mitchell Marsh needs to get those 70s-80s or even a century while setting up a total or chasing a target because it helps the team.

We Need To Win All Our Games To Be In Consideration For The Finals: David Warner

David Warner, who won the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 when he led the side said that this season, DC needs to win all their remaining games if they have to play the finals. DC have 8 points from 9 games and they are 7th on the points table.

As things stand, Apart from Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants no other team looks set to make the playoffs. A couple of losses or a couple of wins for any team can change the whole points table around.

“Moving forward from where we are, we’ve obviously got to win every game to make it to the finals. There’s a strong competition, two teams we have got to come against – Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are pretty much similar points to us,” Warner said ahead of their game against his former team Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“We could get that upper hand if we beat Sunrisers. We then go into the top four, but obviously, we need RCB to start losing as well. It’s quite a congested table, but exciting for the rest of the tournament,” he added.

Delhi Capitals would rue the chances they botched up in earlier games as they came close but couldn’t win.

“I think if you look at the results, we’ve just missed out when we are chasing those big totals. We have managed to get so close, but they are the ones that hurt you”, Warner said.

When asked about his partnership with Prithvi Shaw at the top of the order, he said: ” We’ve got off to a good start. In the last match, we’ve fallen cheaply, both of us, and that can happen in this game because we have to play that high-level brand of cricket in the power play.”

“I think the most important thing is myself or him (Prithvi Shaw) or Mitch (Mitchell Marsh) scoring an 80 or 90 or even a hundred if we can, to post good totals or chase down big totals, and that’s the key.

“I think that’s the focus for every other team. The teams who are doing well are scoring big runs at the top of the order. And, two players are actually scoring big in the games, they are the ones that you really need to shine to win these games.”

David Warner has been in good touch this season and he would look to make it count against his former team when DC face SRH next.
