Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant was dejected after going for one too many shots in Thursday’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), eventually getting out to Shreyas Gopal.
Batting first, DC began poorly as Prithvi Shaw’s replacement, Mandeep Singh fell for a 5-ball duck. Mitchell Marsh was also dismissed after making 10 runs off 7 balls, leaving David Warner and Pant to rebuild.
Warner looked at ease against the pace of Umran Malik while Pant opted to go after the spinners. Gopal took the brunt of Pant’s wrath, getting tonked for sixes in his 2nd over of the night.
Playing his first game for SRH, Gopal was smashed for 3 sixes back-to-back, each of them equally massive. He smashed the first one over square leg before depositing the next two over the bowler’s head and long-off.
Pant followed it up with another cheeky four, cutting hard behind the square fielder. Unfortunately for Pant, he fell to the worst ball of the over.
Gopal dished out a wide full toss and in his attempt to use maximum power, Pant lost his shape and ended up edging the ball onto the off-stump. It is the first time in the IPL 2022 season that Pant was dismissed by a spinner.
