Former Indian player Wasim Jaffer was impressed with Hardik Pandya’s captaincy against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Gujarat Titans defeated Rishabh Pant & co by 14 runs after a great performance by their bowlers and batters.

Gujarat opener Shubman Gill displayed a master-class attack against the Capitals bowlers in his sublime 46-ball 84 runs. He smashed six fours and four sixes while batting at the strike rate of 182.61 on a surface where other Gujarat Titans batters could manage to score just 80 off 74 balls as the team posted 171/6.

Pace bowlers Lockie Ferguson (4/28) and Mohammed Shami (2/30) executed their plans very well to restrict DC at 157/9. Jaffer appreciated skipper Hardik Pandya for managing his bowlers in the second innings.

“It shows how important it is to have a strong bowling lineup. Rashid was bowling well, Mohammed Shami, and Lockie Ferguson. By the end of the 15th over, Hardik Pandya had four overs of their specialist bowlers,” Jaffer told on ESPNcricinfo.

“Although he had to manage one over, I think he didn’t need to because he trusted his main bowlers. Impressive. I think I was very impressed with Hardik’s captaincy as well,” he added.

GT vs DC: It was Delhi Capitals’ game to lose: Wasim Jaffer

The former Punjab Kings batting coach pointed out that Lalit Yadav’s run out not only ended the excellent 61-run stand with skipper Rishabh Pant but also was the turning point of the game.

“It was Delhi Capitals’ game to lose. I was backing them to chase this down. It wasn’t a massive target and they were looking, you know, pretty good when Rishabh and Lalit Yadav were batting,” Jaffer said.

“Suddenly one run-out… three times they were at one end and could’ve been out and that changed the momentum. And how good was Lockie Ferguson? Four wickets at such an important stage, taking that crucial wicket of Rishabh Pant and then Axar Patel who won them (DC) the last game,” he added.

Gujarat Titans will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next game on April 8 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
