Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya is upbeat about his captaincy debut in the IPL 2022 season.
The 28-year-old is ecstatic to be leading a new franchise and has assured fans that the entire team will give their all on the field.
Pandya was seen giving a special message to his fans in a video posted by GT on YouTube ahead of their first game against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“Captain Hardik Pandya is here to speak to you, ladies and gentlemen. The atmosphere is new, but so is the field. But, listen, I’m not going to tell you where I came from because you probably already know. I’ll tell you where I’ll be taking you. It’s a climb toward the pinnacle of sporting success.”
Hardik Pandya also discussed his desire to emulate the success of the IPL and Indian legends such as MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar. He continued, saying:
“That sweet lofty place where grit coexists with grind and labour leads to luck. It is a range that my brother (MS Dhoni) has scaled, and I have made no secret of my desire to emulate him. It’s a place that my hero (Sachin Tendulkar) used to own and where he told me stories about how he got there.”
“I’ve survived a national storm, so I understand what it takes”: Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya acknowledged that it may not always be smooth sailing for GT, as there will be ups and downs. But he also emphasized how he went through some difficult times in his life and came out on top. He stated,
“It is a journey that will pit me against my sibling, soulmate, and many of my closest friends at times. And, like any other flight, there may be turbulence. But take a look at me. I know what it takes because I’ve survived a national storm, a ban, a gruelling back injury, and more.”
“Confidence, flamboyance, I just know that when I walk in, bat in my hand, my opponents get tiny little chills in their spine, knowing that I can pull off a heist from anywhere. And here’s the best part, now I am shaping the whole team to be like that. So wear your seat belts, I assure you it is going to be a hell of a ride. Aava de!”
Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants will face off in Match No. 4 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Monday at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium (March 28). Hardik Pandya’s Titans will face off against his close friend KL Rahul’s side, with both teams hoping to get off to a winning start in the T20 league.
