Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opined Mumbai Indians won’t play senior all-rounder Kieron Pollard in their remaining matches.

Pollard is enduring his worst season in the Indian Premier League since joining Mumbai Indians in 2010. The former West Indies captain amassed 129 runs in 10 innings, striking at 109.32 with the best score of 25 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

In the match against Gujarat Titans on Friday, Pollard was cleaned up by leg-spinner Rashid Khan and made four runs in 14 deliveries.

On the other hand, Tim David hit 21-ball 44, including two boundaries and four sixes, to propel MI to 177/6 in the first innings.

Chopra said Pollard won’t play in the remaining four games for Mumbai Indians this season based on Tim David’s performance last night.

Tilak Varma got run out but before that Kieron Pollard got out. That’s an interesting one, I feel Kieron Pollard will not play any further this year, that’s it, they won’t play him anymore because Dewald Brevis is sitting outside and Tim David is doing well,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“Don’t know why they didn’t play a punt on Tim David earlier. They had kept this six-hitting machine sitting outside for a long time. Now they have remembered that they should play him and he has not disappointed them even once since they have played him, match-winning knocks coming at the end,” he added.

In the middle of IPL 2022, Pollard announced retirement from international cricket after playing for almost 15 years in the West Indies colours.

Mumbai Indians eventually won the match by five runs as Australian left-arm pace bowler Daniel Sams just conceded three runs in the final over, where Gujarat needed nine to win off six balls.

Sams bowled the last two deliveries as dots against David Miller, denying the South African to play a big shot as Gujarat fell five runs short of their chase.

MI will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 9 at DR DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
