GT vs MI: Twitter Reacts As Mumbai Hold Nerve, Edge Gujarat In Last-Over Thriller
Mumbai Indians (MI) defend a fairly competitive total against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday at the Brabourne Stadium to win their second game in 10 matches played so far this IPL 2022 season.
Batting first, Mumbai had their best powerplay of the season with Rohit Sharma taking the lead. Ishan Kishan chipped in soon after and MI was 74/0 at the end of seven overs.
However, Rohit’s wicket saw Mumbai fluster. Suryakumar Yadav failed to contribute much while Kieron Pollard’s awful season continued. Tim David played a stunning cameo at the end (44 off 21) to propel the total to 177/6 in 20 overs.
In response, Shubman Gill was out of form and the pressure on him was rising. He put the doubters to bed alongside the rejuvenated Wriddhiman Saha, putting on 106 runs for the first wicket.
The duo brought up their fifties off consecutive balls but fell in the space of five balls to bring MI back into the game. Sai Sudarshan had an awkward hit-wicket dismissal before the skipper, Hardik Pandya, ran himself out due to a poor call.
The onus once again fell on the finishing pair of David Miller and Rahul Tewatia. However, another poor call led to Tewatia’s run out. The final over bowled was by Daniel Sams who had only 9 runs to defend. However, he managed to outfox Miller with two slower deliveries on the final delivery to hand MI the win.
The win doesn’t change the position of either team on the points table as Gujarat remains at the top while Mumbai now has 4 points after 10 matches.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to GT vs MI:
After an opening stand of 106 chasing 177 #GT miss the winning bus. #GTvMI. Good for #MumbaiIndians to hold their nerve and Daniel Sams with a brilliant last over.
