Gujarat Titans pulled off a heist in their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Needing 22 off the last over, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia did the unthinkable and ended SRH’s 5-match win streak.

Batting first after losing the toss for the first time, Sunrisers lost Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi to Mohammed Shami in the first five overs. Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram then rebuilt the innings, reaching their respective fifties in the process.

SRH proceeded to lose their way in the death overs due to some tight overs from Gujarat. However, Shashank Singh, batting for the first time in the IPL, smashed a stunning 6-ball 25 which propelled the total to 195 in 20 overs.

In response, Gujarat got off to a flier courtesy of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill. While the latter played the second fiddle, Saha found his old touch and blazed away to a 29-ball half-century.

Umran Malik, having found his form recently, then provided the breakthrough by dismissing Shubman Gill. He then had Hardik Pandya caught at third man to put SRH on top of the game.

Gujarat was always ahead in the run chase, however, and it needed a stunning 2-over spell from Umran to once again bring Sunrisers back into the game. The speedster went on to castle Saha, David Miller, and Abhinav Manohar to bag his first career five-wicket haul.

Eventually, it boiled down to 22 runs off the last over bowled by Marco Jansen. Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan managed to smash 4 sixes, 3 off the last 3 balls to take Gujarat over the line. Hardik Pandya and co. now have 7 wins in 8 matches and are well on their way to the playoffs.
