IPL 2022: Harshal Patel Names The Player Who He Believes Can Be Named The Captain Of RCB

Indian bowler Harshal Patel named South African batter, Faf du Plessis as a likely replacement for Virat Kohli in the captain’s role ahead of the IPL 2022 season.

Harshal was bought back by the franchise for a price of INR 10.75 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Subsequently, he had a conversation with the Star Sports panel, where he revealed that RCB’s new recruitment, du Plessis, could well be the captain.

“I don’t know, I haven’t had any chat with anybody at the RCB management, but Faf is, in my opinion. He has led South Africa very well and is a potential candidate, but I certainly can’t say,” Harshal told in a chat with the analyst panel of Star Sports.

RCB bid aggressively for Harshal after the pacer showed tremendous skill in the IPL 2021 season. They had an eye for him right from the beginning which brings up the question as to why they didn’t retain him in the first place. Speaking about the same, Harshal elaborated on it.

“They basically told me that if we retain you, we’ll have to pay you 6 crore and 9 crore will be deducted out of our purse because you will be the fourth player. So we don’t want to do that and we’d rather that you earn that money in the auction and we’ll try our best to get you back. So that was the only communication.”

“When they traded me back from Delhi, they gave me an opportunity and responsibility that I was not expecting to fulfil. They backed me, saw something in me and that means a lot. The price tag is obviously huge but at the same time, the amount of faith they’ve shown in me means a lot,” he revealed.

Harshal broke several records on the way to 32 wickets in the previous season, which is the joint highest ever in a single season.
