IPL 2022 Auction: 5 Australian Players Who Might Go Unsold In Mega Auction

5. Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is the first player on this list. The Australian player has kept a base price of Rs. 1 crore. Although Labuschagne is a top-rated batsman in international cricket, his expertise is limited to only Test format.

He makes into the Test team on a regular basis for Australia, however, fails to get an entry into ODIs and T20Is. Since IPL is a T20 league, buyers might not be interested to pick a Test specialist in their squads. Moreover, Labuschagne has Rs. 1 crore base price, and franchises will be unwilling to spend such a big amount for buying a Test specialist.

4. Usman Khawaja

Usman Khawaja is another Australian player who might go unsold in IPL 2022 auction. The left-handed batsman has kept a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore for himself. Khawaja made a spectacular comeback in Test cricket after two years, smashing two centuries in a Test match in Ashes 2021-22.

However, like Labuschagne, Khawaja is also a Test specialist. Moreover, he was also out of the national team for quite a long time in the past few years. Hence, Khawaja might go unsold during the mega auction.

3. Billy Stanlake

Billy Stanlake is another player on this list. The right-arm pacer has kept a base price of Rs. 75 lakh. Last year, Billy went unsold in the IPL 2021 auction with his base price of Rs. 1 crore. He does not get a call in Australia’s national team currently.

He was part of IPL 2017 and IPL 2018. He played 6 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad during the two seasons. Billy has decreased his price for the auction but he is likely to remain unsold like the last auction.

Once, James Faulkner was the top all-rounder for Australia in the limited-overs format. He also accounted for many match-winning performances against India. In IPL too, he was a top player for Rajasthan Royals in the past. However, in the past few seasons, no franchise has shown interest in buying him.

Faulkner has completely vanished from Australia’s national team now. Hence, franchises are not interested to get him into the squad. He has remained unsold in the past few auctions and is expected to face a similar fate in IPL 2022 auction.

Chris Lynn is another player on this list. Lynn has been part of IPL for a long time. He played his debut IPL game in the 2012 season. However, over the years, he has got very few chances to perform. Last year, the right-handed batsman was part of Mumbai Indians but only played 1 match.

He was benched after his opening game. He has set Rs. 1.5 crore base price for himself. Lynn is not part of Australia’s national team currently and hence franchises will not be interested to pick him in their squads.
