The IPL 2022 mega auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. Several reputed overseas batsmen are a part of the auction. Few of them are proven captaincy material in the IPL as well. With many franchises in search of a potential captain, the stocks of a few of those players might rise come the mega auction.

The BCCI finalised a list of 590 players for the IPL 2022 mega auction. Among them, there are 370 Indian players and 270 overseas players. The overseas players are from different countries like Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka among others. So far, the 10 franchises have picked a total of 33 players in their squads.

The rest of the players will be picked from this list during IPL 2022 auction. Australia has the most 47 players followed by West Indies with 34 players and South Africa with 33 players. In this article, we will take a look at five overseas batsmen to watch out for in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

IPL 2022 Auction: Five Overseas Batsmen To Watch Out For In The Mega Auction

Faf Du Plessis

The CSK veteran was released due to the strict retention rules. However, the franchise will most probably look to buy him back at the mega auction. Du Plessis is a proven matchwinner with the bat, someone who plays spin well. To add to that he is a brilliant fielder and can be looked at as a potential leader for one of the franchises.

With his experience and versatility as a player, Faf is expected to make franchises break the bank for him. In IPL 2021, he ended as the second-highest run-scorer with 633 runs at a strike rate of nearly 140.

David Warner

Warner is amongst the highest-run scorers in the IPL. He is the highest run-getter among the overseas players in the IPL. He is almost as secure as a bank when it comes to getting runs for his team. From 2014 to 2020 he has scored 500-plus runs every season barring the 2018 season when he was banned from playing the IPL due to his involvement in the sandpaper gate scandal.

Another thing that sets the southpaw apart in the IPL is his proven leadership skills. He won the IPL title with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. With teams looking for captains, they would dearly want David Warner to lead their particular franchise. Warner might very well end up being the most expensive batsman in IPL 2022 auction.

Quinton De Kock

The South African wicket-keeper batsman will be on the wishlist of many franchises. De Kock fulfils two facts of the game and can be a part of the leadership group as well. An attacking opener and a safe keeper behind the stumps, De Kock is expected to raise tem[peratures inside the auction room.

He played his best in the IPL for Mumbai Indians scoring 500-plus runs in IPL 2019 and 2020 when Mumbai won IPL titles. He has been in rich vein of form in white-ball cricket as well for South Africa as he proved in the series against India.

Jonny Bairstow

Another keeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow is a proven performer in the IPL as well. In the three seasons he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored 1038 runs at an average of 41.42 and a strike rate over 140. The biggest plus with Bairstow is the fact that once he gets in, he scores big. He can anchor the innings and can give the finishing kick in the end overs as well.

SRH had to let go of him due to the auction policies. This now gives other franchises a chance to rope in the talented England cricketer. He is a regular keeper, is a good fielder as well to go with his brilliant batting skills. He might fetch big bucks in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Mitchell Marsh

Marsh is an interesting name among the top-five overseas batsmen to watch out for in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Based on his batting form in the last 12 months, he might be an interesting selection. Along with Warner, he was one of the chief run-getters fr Australia in the T20 World Cup last year. He also scored runs when Australia toured the Caribbean and Bangladesh last year while all other players struggled.

His fitness might be a concern for the franchises to go after him, but if he remains fit he can be among the top-scorers in IPL 2022. He was the Player of the Match in the T20 World Cup final. He then followed it up with a 347-run season in BBL 11.
