Chennai Super Kings head into the IPL 2022 mega auction with a purse value of 48 crores after the retention. The franchise retained Ravindra Jadeja (16 Crores, MS Dhoni (12 Crores), Moeen Ali (8 Crores) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 Crores)> in the process, they have tried to make up for at least one player in every department of the game.

Gaikwad is their designated opener, while Moeen Ali can be used as a floater in the middle-order. Dhoni will remain the leader of the side and also as the finisher. With Jadeja, they get a spinner, a finisher and an all-rounder.

Coming to the auctions, the franchisee will need to do a lot of shopping to make a complete squad of 25-30 players. This might well be the last mega auction as per reports. The next one will be at a much later date. Keeping that in mind, here is a probable list of players that Chennai Super Kings would look to rope in at the auctions as per the available slots.

IPL 2022 Auction: Probable List Of Players Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Might Target

Openers- Faf Du Plessis, Robin Uthappa

CSK is expected to go all out to get back Faf Du Plessis. He has been a tried and tested player for the franchise and has played a crucial role in all their title victories. He along with Rururaj Gaikwad were the two main-scorers of the franchise in IPL 2020 and 2021.

He ended as the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2022. In case, the franchise would look towards an Indian opener, Robin Uthappa is a good choice. He played a key role for the franchise in the limited games that he played for the franchise last season.

Spinners-Mitchell Santner, Ravichandran Ashwin

In Ravindra Jadeja, CSK has one spin option. They need at least two experienced spinners who will be a part of the team keeping the future in mind. Keeping in mind the same, Mitchell Santner and Ravichandran Ashwin can be the best fit.

Both still are in their 30s and have a lot of international cricket left in them. Santner and Ashwin, also have right-arm and left-arm spin options adding variety to the attack as well.

Pacers-Josh Hazlewood, Mark Wood, Lungi Ngidi, Deepak Chahar

Chennai Super Kings often go the traditional way. They do not believe in chopping and changing their squad much. Looking for pace bowlers, they might look to buy back a couple of pacers who have already played for the franchise.

Ideally, the above-mentioned names are the best fit for the kind of cricket they play in IPL tournaments. Hazlewood, Ngidi and Wood will give the side the pace boost while Chahar has proved that he is more than a handly swing bowler.

All-Rounders: Shardul Thakur

The stocks of Shardul Thakur as an all-rounder has risen immensely in international cricket recently. CSK has played a big part in making him the player that he is today. The franchise might just look to extend the association by buying him back.

He can be the perfect pace bowling partner to Deepak Chahar and also can be used as an all-rounder in the line-up. If the franchise manages to get all the above-mentioned players at the mega auction, they can very well rebuild the core and build a team on top of that keeping the future in mind.
