IPL 2022 Auction: 5 Players Rajasthan Royals (RR) Can Target. IPL 2022 mega auctions will revamp the structure of all the franchise teams for the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
As the IPL Governing Council has allowed each franchise to retain a maximum of four players, most of the franchises utilised the provision to keep their premium players for a longer duration.
A total of 27 players were retained in the retention list by the eight existing teams. Ace players like Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson have been retained by their respective teams ahead of the mega auction in 2022.
Rajasthan Royals retained their skipper Sanju Samson alongside England’s destructive batter Jos Buttler and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for IPL 2022.
The inaugural IPL champions have left out their star players like Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer because of the uncertainty with their injuries. Royals are left with a purse of INR 62 crore when they head towards the IPL 2022 auction.
Rajasthan hasn’t won the IPL title since the first edition in 2008 and their Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara will prepare the auction strategy accordingly to create a balanced team.
Let us look at the five potential players Rajasthan Royals might go after in the IPL 2022 auction.
IPL 2022 Auction: 5 Players Rajasthan Royals (RR) Can Target
5) Evin Lewis
The West Indies opening batter replaced England’s Jos Buttler in the Rajasthan Royals squad for the second leg of IPL 2021.
Lewis has been phenomenal as an opener in the shortest format, in 45 T20Is, he has amassed 1318 at the strike rate of 158.03 with the help of nine fifties and a couple of hundreds against India.
Lewis scored 36 runs from 21 balls against Punjab Kings on his return to IPL as Rajasthan Royals won by two runs in a thrilling contest that went down to the wire.
Lewis could pair with Buttler in the Royals’ opening slot and together they can create havoc for the opposition bowlers.
4) R Ashwin
Ashwin picked seven wickets in IPL 2021 and was very close to pushing Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021 final.
Given that Ashwin has returned to India’s T20I set-up after being picked for the T20 World Cup followed by the New Zealand series at home, franchises would want him in their team for his phenomenal economy rate of 6.91 in IPL.
Ashwin can bring his vast experience for the Royals to revive their bowling department in the middle overs and could also be an advisor to Samson in making core decisions.
3) Mahipal Lomror
The Rajasthan all-rounder has the ability to take the key bowlers to the cleaners and currently holds a strike rate of 119.87.
He smashed 17-ball 43 runs against Punjab Kings in an IPL match in Dubai, his brilliant knock included a couple of fours and four sixes.
As Rajasthan Royals has a reputation of backing young guns, Lomror could find an extension if the team management decides to pick him and groom him in their squad.
2) Deepak Chahar
The 29-year-old has bowled the new ball for Chennai Super Kings in the last four years and has accounted for a total of 58 wickets from as many IPL games at an average of 27.70.
Chahar picked 14 wickets in CSK’s IPL 2021 title triumphant campaign including the big wicket of Shubman Gill.
Chahar, who plays for Rajasthan’s state team, might be familiar with the conditions of the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and can be effective for the Royals in early overs.

Tyagi played just four games for the Royals and claimed as many wickets at an economy rate of 8.85. The 21-year-old, who hails from Hapur, also represented India in the U-19 World Cup in 2020 in South Africa.
