There is no denying that the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is going to get bigger and better. Perhaps everyone is quite aware of the fact that two new teams have been added ahead of the next edition of the cash-rich league. The IPL extravaganza is now going to be a 10-team affair. The two new teams which have entered the league are Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

Both the teams are allowed to pick three players from the list of released players. Both of them have been given a budget of 33 crores each to shortlist three players around whom they can build their respective teams. The two franchises are allowed to sign three players with a price bracket of ₹15 crores, ₹11 crores, and ₹7 crores respectively.

The rest of the squad will be picked in the upcoming Mega-Auction 2022. Amongst the Indian players, a lot of overseas players will be in huge demand in the auctions. So far, only 8 overseas players have been retained by the franchise. The rest of them will once again go under the hammer at the mega auctions. In this article, we have compiled the Best XI of Overseas players available for retention by two new teams.

IPL 2022 Auction: Best XI Of Overseas Players Available For Retention By Two New Teams

David Warner

Both the franchises will have their eyes on David Warner. The Australian cricketer has been in blistering form with the bat. He had a sensational ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. The southpaw exhibited telling performances and helped the team win their first-ever T20 World Cup title. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, managing 303 runs in 6 matches at an average of 60.60.

Warner has an exceptional record for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. No player has scored more runs for SRH than Warner himself. He led the franchise to win their first-ever title in 2016. The Australian, however, endured forgettable numbers in IPL 2021.

Poor performances with the bat meant he was stripped off from the captaincy duties before being dropped from the side. Ahead of the 2022 edition of the tournament, Warner was released by the franchise which means he will once again go back into the auction. The southpaw might get picked by one of the franchises before the Mega Auctions 2022.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis has been a prolific run-scorer for Chennai Super Kings. He was the man who always stood out with the bat in the most important matches for the franchise. The South African enjoyed a great run with the bat in the IPL 2021. He gave exceptional starts to the team and formed a great opening pair with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The former South African skipper was the second-highest run-scorer in the last edition of the tournament, having managed to score 635 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.36. However, the CSK couldn’t retain him and opted for Moeen Ali instead.

He could be someone who the two new teams might think of adding to their retention list.

Chris Gayle

The Universal Boss has scored the third-most number of runs by an overseas player in IPL history. He has been one of the best batsmen in the history of the tournament. However, West Indies has looked a pale shadow of himself in the last couple of years with the bat. His numbers with the bat don’t inspire a lot of confidence and it’s unlikely that he will be picked by any franchise in the tournament.

Gayle scored only 193 runs in 10 matches in IPL 2021 at an average of 21.44 and a strike rate of 125.32.

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow has an outstanding record with the bat in the Indian Premier League. He wreaked havoc with the bat in the first half of the IPL 2021. Despite wickets falling at one end, Bairstow held firm at the other end and made sure runs keep coming at a decent rate.

In 7 matches, he managed to score 248 runs at 41.33. He missed the second half of the tournament and wasn’t retained by the franchise for next year either. Ahead of the Mega Auction 2022, he will once again find himself at the auction pool.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes is hailed as one of the best all-rounders in modern-day cricket. He is a true asset for any team in any format of the game. Stokes is an explosive hitter of the ball and can give you four crucial overs with the ball.

Though, he wasn’t able to make a great impact for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition of the tournament. He played one match for RR in the 2021 edition before getting ruled out of the entire tournament due to a broken finger.

Stokes took a break from all forms of cricket before recently making his comeback in the ongoing Ashes series. He has recovered from his injury and is likely to be available for the next edition of IPL. There aren’t a lot of cricketers who are as skilful as Ben Stokes and both the franchises might be tempted to add him to their retention list.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga is currently the number one bowler in the ICC T20 rankings. Hasaranga has been nothing short of outstanding for the last couple of years. With an array of variations under his armoury, he has been bamboozling the batsmen for quite some time now.

Consistent performances in white-ball cricket at the big stage have made him one of the most important members of the Sri Lankan team. Hasaranga was brilliant in the home series against India. He was the highest wicket-taker with 7 wickets to his name in 3 matches at an average of 9.57.

Hasaranga was the highest wicket-taker in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He, unfortunately, couldn’t make a great impact in whatever opportunities were handed to him at RCB in IPL 2021. He played two matches and went wicketless in both games. Despite that, he is likely to cause a bidding war at the auctions.

Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo is one of the consistent performers in IPL over the years. He played the majority of his cricket in IPL for Chennai Super Kings. The West Indies cricketer has played an integral role in CSK’s success over the years. He has been a go-to bowler for MS Dhoni in the middle overs as well as death overs.

Bravo’s ability to vary his pace makes it tough for the batsmen to score big hits against him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t retained by CSK for the next edition of the tournament and will go back into the auction pool.

Rashid Khan

Surprisingly, Sunrisers Hyderabad hasn’t retained their premier spinner Rashid Khan for the next edition of the IPL. As per reports, the franchise wanted to retain him but only as second retention and not the first. But Rashid Khan wanted to be the first retention, which is the 15 crore contract.

Things didn’t work out and SRH had to release the Afghanistan spinner. It means that he is likely to go under the hammer for the first time since 2017. Though, he might be picked by one of the two franchises before the mega auctions.

Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins was the second most expensive buy in the history of the IPL after he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 15.5 crore in IPL 2020. He played two consecutive seasons for KKR and dished out exceptional performances.

Cummins not only made an impact with the ball but was also handy with the bat. Unfortunately, he wasn’t available for the second edition of the cash-rich tournament held in the UAE. He played 7 matches in IPL 2021 and picked 9 wickets at an average of 26.33.

Trent Boult:

Trent Boult has had two wonderful years at Mumbai Indians in IPL. Mumbai Indians traded him with Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2020 edition of the IPL. He picked the third most number of wickets in 2020 with 25 wickets to his name. Boult bowled well in IPL 2021 as well, however, Mumbai Indians had to let go of their seamer for the next edition. Given the impact that he has had over the last couple of years, Mumbai Indians will try their best to buy him back at the auctions.

Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer hasn’t played any form of cricket for a long time. He isn’t available for England Cricket Team in the ongoing Ashes series. Due to an elbow injury, Jofra Archer didn’t take part in IPL 20221 and also missed the T20 World Cup. There are still doubts over his availability in the upcoming tournaments as well.

Hopefully, he will be available for the next edition of IPL. If he makes himself available, then he might go on to become the most expensive buy among the fast bowlers.
