Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has alerted Chennai Super Kings that they won’t get South Africa batter Faf du Plessis easily in the IPL 2022 auction.
Du Plessis was an integral part of CSK since he joined them in 2012 and has won two IPL titles with the ‘Yellow Brigade’. The South African batter amassed 2932 runs from 93 innings at the strike rate of 132.
Faf du Plessis was the second-highest scorer for CSK in IPL 2021
With 633 runs from 16 games in IPL 2021, Du Plessis was the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2021 and formed a solid opening partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad for CSK.
Du Plessis fired 86 from 59 balls, striking seven fours and three sixes, as CSK posted 192 in the final against KKR. MS Dhoni and his men won the match by 27 runs to clinch their fourth IPL title.
In the 2018 IPL auction, du Plessis was sold to CSK for INR 1.60 crore after the franchise used the right-to-match (RTM) card.
CSK should definitely be ready to spend a lot more for Faf du Plessis: Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin, who was with the Yellow Brigade between 2009-2015, said the four-time IPL champions will have to spend enough money as many franchises would be interested to pick the former South Africa captain.
“Last time around, CSK stole Faf du Plessis for 1.5 crore. But this time, I don’t see that type of steal happening for him. CSK fans will definitely have him on their wish list,” Ashwin said on his official YouTube channel.
“If CSK wants to buy Faf du Plessis this time, they should definitely be ready to spend a lot more than they did last time. Faf du Plessis will have a great demand in my opinion. Faf will be sought after by most teams,” he added.
Chennai Super Kings retained iconic skipper, MS Dhoni, promising batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali.
The IPL 2022 auction won’t have the regular eight teams featuring but this time it will be 10 after the BCCI added two new teams (Lucknow and Ahmedabad) for the next edition.
A total of 1214 players had initially signed up for the IPL 2022 auction, after reducing the list only 590 (370 Indian & 220 overseas) players will go under the hammer.
