Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer hilariously trolled IPL franchise Delhi Capitals after they purchased Australian batter David Warner in the IPL 2022 auction on Saturday.
Warner was amongst the top 10 names in the marquee players list, who had kept their base price of INR 2 crore, and cricket experts had expected the Australian star batsman to break records in the auction.

However, it was beyond everyone’s imagination as Warner went for a simple deal than he deserved. Capitals were the first to bid for the left-handed batter, and soon Chennai Super Kings joined the race. CSK were out of contention when the bidding reached the 4.80 cr landmark. As it seemed that the Delhi outfit was about to close the deal, five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians challenged them to sign Warner.
But Mumbai couldn’t wage a long battle against the Delhi franchise, who closed the former Sunrisers skipper’s deal at INR 6.25 crore. The entire cricketing fraternity was stunned to see Warner go easily to Delhi Capitals.
David Warner for just 6.25cr is a Sarojini Nagar market-level bargain: Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer, who played eight IPL matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore between the 2008-09 period, took a cheeky remark at Delhi Capitals where he highlighted the bargaining skills of Delhi citizens.
“Delhi people are known to strike a bargain, but getting David Warner for just 6.25cr is a Sarojini Nagar market-level bargain ? #IPLAuction2022 #IPL2022,” Jaffer said on Koo.
Warner joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 after being with Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) under the captaincy of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Mahela Jayawardene for the first five seasons in the Indian Premier League. Warner is currently the highest run-scorer of SRH with 4014 runs from 95 matches at the strike rate of 142.59.
Things didn’t seem to go well between the Australian player and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final games of the tournament as Warner was dropped from the team and was seen cheering for them from the stands. As expected, Warner was released from the team during the retention window with the Orange Army retaining Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.
