Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his wish to go back to Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Ashwin started his IPL journey in 2009 with CSK and was with the franchise before they were suspended for two seasons because of match-fixing issues. He was the go-to man for his captain MS Dhoni to break the threatening partnerships.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s post-CSK IPL journey
Ashwin was signed by Rising Pune Supergiants, where once again he was playing under Dhoni for the 2016 season.
In the 2018 IPL auction, the spin-bowling all-rounder was purchased by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for INR 7.6 crore.
Ashwin led the Punjab outfit for two seasons before he was traded to Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2019 auction. Ashwin picked seven wickets in IPL 2021 and was very close to pushing Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2021 final.

Delhi Capitals released the off-spinner in the IPL 2022 retention window as they retained Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje. Four-time IPL champions CSK retained MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali.
I’m actually not too sure: Ravichandran Ashwin on going back to CSK
Ashwin said that he would like to go back to CSK but remains clueless on which franchise would target him.
“I’m actually not too sure, but to be honest, a professional player going anywhere giving his best must be the ideal way to go about it. But yeah, I am 35 now, it will be nice to come back to where I started but they already have an off-spinner with them in Moeen Ali. So I don’t know how they’re gonna go about it, so let’s wait and watch,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“Actually to be very honest, I have got no clue about where I might be ending up. The reason being it’s early up in the auction, some teams have got money, some teams have already retained a lot of players and I just feel it’s going to be a real topsy turvy sort of a curve,” he added.
Ashwin is just five wickets shy of completing 150 IPL wickets, he has played 167 IPL games in 13 seasons.
