Prior to the start of the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions, out of 10 franchises, only 4 of them had wicket-keepers in their retention list. CSK had MS Dhoni, Lucknow Super Giants had KL Rahul, Delhi Capitals had Rishabh Pant and Rajasthan Royals had Sanju Samson. All the other franchises were on the lookout for wicket-keepers.

Also, the teams needed a backup as well in the wicket-keeping slot. So, obviously, wicket-keepers were going to be in high demand at the auctions. And, that is what was seen across the two days in the auction in Bangalore.

Ishan Kishan became the most expensive wicket-keeper at the mega auctions. Besides, the likes of Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, Jonny Bairstow, etc. also made big fortunes. Both Indian, as well as overseas wicket-keepers, were in huge demand. In this article, we rate the 5 best buys of the capped Indian wicket-keepers.

IPL 2022 Auction: Rating The 5 Best Buys Of The Capped Indian Batters Wicket-Keepers:

  1. Ishan Kishan: (10/10)

Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions, Mumbai Indians, unfortunately, had to release Ishan Kishan. However, the franchise was adamant to buy him back at the auctions. They had saved a good amount of money for him and ended up spending a whopping 15.25 crore to buy his services.

Ishan Kishan is a rising star in India Cricket. He made head turn in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League while playing for Mumbai Indians. Kishan wreaked havoc in the tournament and finished as the highest run-getter for the team. He will be opening the innings with Rohit Sharma in the upcoming edition of the IPL and is expected to dish out impressive performances with the bat.

  1. Dinesh Karthik: (9/10)

Given that there isn’t a lot of supply of the experienced Indian wicket-keepers, Royal Challengers Bangalore did extremely well to buy the services of Dinesh Karthik at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. The franchise managed to buy his services for a prize of INR 5.5 crores.

Dinesh Karthik will provide the much-needed experience in the team and also add depth to the batting unit. Last year, RCB struggled to find someone who could play vital cameos in the slog overs while batting in the lower middle-order. They have managed to address that issue this year. Besides, Dinesh Karthik could also be a potential candidate for the captaincy.

  1. Ambati Rayudu: (8.5/10)

Chennai Super Kings have managed to get Ambati Rayudu back into the side ahead of the upcoming edition of the tournament. CSK shelled out INR 6.75 crores to acquire his services. Rayudu has been a vital cog for CSK for the last few years.

He has played some brilliant knocks while batting in the middle-order and is likely to have a similar impact this year as well. Ambati Rayudu listed himself in the wicket-keeping category this year and CSK did well to get him back into the fold.

  1. Wriddhiman Saha: 7/10

Gujarat Titans managed to buy Wriddhiman Saha for an amount of INR 1.9 crores. They managed to buy him at a bargain price, however, he wasn’t the best choice as Gujarat Lions already have a solid opening pair of Shubman Gill and Jason Roy. Saha, perhaps, won’t be as effective while batting in the lower-middle order and the franchise wouldn’t be playing him at the top of the order. Hence, you don’t call this a wise choice by Gujarat Titans.
