The much-awaited IPL 2022 Mega Auctions took place on 12th and 13th February 2022 in Bangaluru. The ten teams were involved in bidding wars for two days and managed to compile solid squads ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

The newly introduced teams, namely Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans too fared pretty well at the auctions. Both made some notable acquisitions and it will be interesting to see how they fare in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

This year’s auctions saw Indian bowlers in high demand. Almost all the Indian bowlers managed to fetch billion-dollar contracts. Having said the Indian batters too drew a lot of attention. The most successful franchise in IPL, Mumbai Indians broke the bank to go all out for Ishan Kishan at the IPL Mega Auctions 2022. The destructive opener caused a bidding war at the auctions but Mumbai Indians eventually managed to buy his services for a whopping prize of 15.25 crores.

With that, he also became the most expensive buy at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. Ishan Kishan is hailed as the rising star in Indian Cricket. He doesn’t need any introduction. He has played a number of destructive knocks for MI in the Indian Premier League and is likely to fare well with the bat this year as well. Getting Ishan Kishan back in the team should be one of the biggest positives for Mumbai Indians as he strengthens their top-order.

Shreyas Iyer will play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. KKR needed a skipper and thus, they went all out to acquire the services of Shreyas Iyer at the auctions. The franchise bought him for a whopping sum of 12.25 crores.

Getting an experienced player like Shreyas Iyer, who has a good amount of leadership experience under his belt, is a big positive for KKR. Iyer provides solidity in the middle-order. He can play the anchor role and has the potential to lead the franchise in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

For those of who don’t know, Shikhar Dhawan was the first player to be sold at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. He caused a bidding war between saveral franchises and it was Punjab Kings in the end, who managed to acquire his services for a sum of 8.25 crores. Given how the southpaw has performed in the last few years in IPL, Punjab Kings should be delighted to have him in the squad.

Dhawan can form a brilliant opening pair with Mayank Agarwal and also brings loads of experience with him. As per recent reports, he is likely to lead the franchise in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Devdutt Padikkal wasn’t retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the next edition of the tournament. His performances in the last couple of years tempted a few franchises to bid for him at the auctions. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals were involved in a bidding war to acquire his services.

Rajasthan Royals eventually managed to buy his services at a whopping prize of 8.5 crores. Rajasthan Royals already had three top-order batters in Samson, Jaiswal, and Jos Buttler but they still went all out to acquire Padikkal. His inclusion would mean that Jos Buttler might play in the middle-order for RR this year.

Chennai Super Kings have managed to get Ambati Rayudu back into the side ahead of the upcoming edition of the tournament. CSK shelled out INR 6.75 crores to acquire his services. Rayudu has been a vital cog for CSK for the last few years. He has played some brilliant knocks while batting in the middle-order and is likely to have a similar impact this year as well.
