The first day of the Indian Premier League – IPL 2022 auction was completed with Ishan Kishan becoming the second most expensive Indian player being sold in the auction when Mumbai Indians (MI) spent INR 15.25 crores for him. Deepak Chahar was the second most expensive player sold at this auction with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) splurging INR 14 crores for the all-rounder.
Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran were the joint-most expensive foreign buys of the IPL 2022 mega auction on day one. Royal Challengers Bangalore spent INR 10.75 crores for Hasaranga, while Sunrisers Hyderabad spent the same amount for Nicholas Pooran.
The IPL 2022 mega auction also saw a shocking moment when British auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed in the middle of the Hasaranga bidding process and was unconscious before the venue medical staff tended to him. He lost consciousness due to low blood pressure and as a result, the IPL management arranged for Charu Sharma, the Indian presenter of repute to conduct the remainder of the auction, of which he did a fantastic job.

A total of 74 players were sold on day one of the IPL 2022 auction with 20 of them being overseas players. The total amount of money spent on day one was Three Hundred Crore eighty-Eight Crore ten Lakh rupees (₹3,88,10,00,000).
All ten franchises have been asked to submit a list of 20 players each for the accelerated auction that will take place after set 18, and the first 161 players. Those names have to be submitted by 9 am tomorrow.
