Former England captain Michael Vaughan heaped praise over England speedster Jofra Archer after the latter was picked by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 auction.

Archer played 35 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royals for three seasons since he joined them in 2018. The England pace bowler, who hails from Barbados, picked 46 IPL wickets at an economy rate of 7.13.

Archer missed IPL 2021 because of a recurrence of a stress fracture on his right elbow, which also ruled him out for England for the entire season and he could not participate in the T20 World Cup and the Ashes in Down Under.

IPL 2022 Auction: Mumbai Indians purchase Jofra Archer despite injury scare

Because of his injury woes, Rajasthan Royals had no option but to release him in the IPL retention window along with England all-rounder Ben Stokes.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, BCCI had told IPL franchises that Jofra Archer will participate in the IPL auction but wasn’t sure to play the IPL 2022 season. The Indian board also alerted the IPL teams that if they buy the England pacer in the auction, they won’t have the luxury to find his replacement.

Despite the warning, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians showed interest in buying Archer. The five-time IPL champions were successful in sealing the deal of the Sussex pacer.

You know you are good when you go for a Million dollars & you are injured !!! #Jofra #IPLAuction2022,” Vaughan tweeted.

If Archer manages to recover before the IPL 2022 season, he will form a formidable new-ball pair with Indian ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah in Mumbai Indians’ playing XI.

Archer bowled the super over during the 2019 World Cup final and conceded 15 runs against New Zealand as the match tied for the second time in the mega clash but England were awarded the crown based on the boundary count rule.
