Jos Buttler indented up his third hundred of the IPL 2022 to help Rajasthan Royals to a 15-run victory against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. While the Englishman stood out as truly newsworthy for his 65-ball 116 that was bound with nine fours and 9 sixes, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant freaked out in the last few moments of the game.

Head coach Ricky Ponting missed the game after a member of his family contracted Covid-19. The Australian great tested negative on two tests since his family member, who was a close contact became infected.

Former India skipper Mohammed Azharuddin called Pant’s activity ‘bad sportsman spirit.’

“Bad sportsman spirit on display by #DelhiCapitals. Cricket is a game of gentlemen and this behaviour is completely unacceptable,” tweeted Azharuddin.

The Delhi Capitals skipper was angry over on-field umpires not checking for a potential waist high ball. A visibly vexed Pant even motioned his batters to come out, while assistant coach Shane Watson attempted to intervene. One of the Delhi Capitals’ mentors Pravin Amre went into the playing field but was told to return by the on-field umpires. Buttler was likewise seen having words with Pant close to the rope.

So Close Yet So Far

Although the outcome probably won’t tell in this way but DC was in the game generally most of the time. They required 36 runs from the last two overs, however, Prasidh Krishna bowled a wicket-maiden and brought the condition down to 36 off the last over. Rovman Powell sent initial three balls of the Obed McCoy over for three sixes. There was some expectation in the DC camp, however, at that point, a debate started over a possible waist-high ball. Powell lost his momentum after the match got halted for several minutes.

No matter what the end result was, DC batters did well to keep their side in the game. David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and Lalit Yadav all played great knocks yet not a solitary one of them could carry on until the end overs.

Rishabh Pant got an opportunity when he was dropped by Yuzvendra Chahal yet on the next ball he got out graciousness of a splendid catch by Devdutt Paddikal.

DC will have a 4-day break before playing their next game against KKR on 28th April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
