The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will not be giving No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to pacer Taskin Ahmed to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as pacer Mark Wood’s replacement.

England pacer Mark Wood was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru for INR 7.5 crore but after suffering an elbow injury during the series against West Indies he has been ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League 2022.

The Lucknow franchise had contacted the BCB and made a proposal to rope in Taskin Ahmed for the 15th edition of the tournament. However, BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus has said that the board will not give NOC to Taskin as they want him to play the remainder of the series against South Africa.

”Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against India, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters as quoted by Cricbuzz.

”We have spoken with Taskin and he has understood the whole situation. He informed the franchise that he is not playing the IPL and will be available for the South Africa tour and later will return back home.”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board official said that the board is expecting all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to be available at least for the third One Day International against South Africa unless the situation of his family members turns very critical.

Notably, Shakib’s mother Shirin Reza has been admitted to hospital due to a heart infection, his second daughter Eyzah Al Hasan has been admitted to hospital due to pneumonia and his youngest son Errum Hasan is also suffering from pneumonia. The BCB official added that Shakib could miss the entire Test series against South Africa.

”We are expecting him to be available in the third ODIs unless his family members’ situation turns very critical. This is a crisis for him and he will be allowed to come whenever he wishes because family comes first.

”We are in constant touch with him. He might miss the Test series if situation is such, but we must remember that he is going through a crisis and we need to back him.”
