Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased 20 players in the IPL 2022 mega auction to go with the three payers they retained during the retention window. They retained skipper Kane Williamson (14 Cr), Abdul Samad (4 Cr) and Umran Malik (4 Cr). Some of the key players that the team picked during the auction were Washington Sundar, Nicholas Pooran, T Natarajan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Nicholas Pooran was the team’s top pick at Rs. 10.75 crores.

Managing the overseas players will be a tough task for all the franchises including Sunrisers Hyderabad. Including skipper Williamson, they have seven other overseas players in the squad, all bringing different facts to their game. Meanwhile, in this article, we will take a look at the four overseas players that the franchise would ideally use in their playing XI in IPL 2022.

Kane is the first of the four overseas players that the franchise will have in their playing Xi. Since joining SRH, Williamson has scored nearly 2000 runs for the franchise, He also took them to the final of IPL 2018. Hyderabad bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan confirmed that he will open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2022. He is the best batsman in the team and thus it makes absolute sense for him to bat the majority of the overs.

Pooran has shown some tremendous form in the T20I series against India. He batted at number three in the games and batted with maturity and game sense. For SRH to maximise his potential, they should allow him to bat at number three in the batting order. This will give him enough time to assess the conditions before he starts hitting the big shots. Consistency is what the management will expect from the southpaw.

“We believe that he’ll do well for us. And the fact that he was sold for such a high price proves that many other franchises desperately wanted him in their squads. Surely, we’re not the only ones,” said Muralitharan on Pooran.

Marco Jansen

Jansen impressed one and all in the previous IPL season, He also bowled with pace and aggression in the recently concluded series against India. Jansen can be an ideal replacement for someone like Mustafizur Rahman who was an X-factor for the franchise till the time he played for them. The left-arm pacer can be an asset for the franchise and can lead their bowling attack as well along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Romario Shepherd

Going by his recent batting exploits, Romario Shepherd should be the fourth overseas option in the SRH playing XI. He played an interesting cameo in the third and final T20I against India. In the process, he gave a glimpse of his power as a batsman. SRH have lacked a finisher over the years and Shepherd might just suit into that role for Hyderabad.
