Gujarat Titans’ vice-captain Rashid Khan accepted that he hasn’t picked enough wickets in the ongoing IPL 2022.

The Afghanistan spin wizard joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017 and picked 83 wickets in 76 matches at an economy rate of 6.33. He is the second most wicket-taker of the franchise after Bhuvneshwar Kumar (128).

Rashid ensured he snapped more than 15 wickets in every IPL season with his best being 21 in IPL 2018.

The least number of wickets the Afghanistan spinner collected was 17 on his debut season in IPL 2017.

Coming to IPL 2022, Rashid has amassed 11 wickets in as many games at an economy of 6.84. In the match against Mumbai Indians, Rashid dismissed Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard to finish 2/24 from four overs.

“While bowling in T20s it’s always great to take wickets but for me, it’s a bit different because I always focus on economy and that is something which puts pressure on the batters,” Rashid said in the post-match presentation.

“But definitely compared to other IPLs, got less wickets this year. In a couple of games I didn’t bowl as good as I should have. But that’s T20, there is so much for you to learn,” he added.

Mumbai Indians rode on Tim David’s late firing (44 in 21 balls) after openers Rohit Sharma (43) and Ishan Kishan (45) provided some crucial runs in the start as they ended with 177 for 6.

Despite a stellar 106-run opening stand between Wriddhiman Saha (55) and Shubman Gill (52), the Titans fell five runs short at the end of the game.

Rashid pointed out that the twin runouts of Hardik Pandya and Rahul Tewatia changed the game for them.

Hardik and (Rahul) Tewatia’s run outs were the game changers. That is the beauty of T20 sometimes you can score 9 off 2 balls and sometimes you fail in scoring 9 off 6 balls,” Rashid said.

“There is a lot to learn, not to repeat the negative things which we did in the last few games,” he added.

Gujarat Titans will play their next match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 10 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
