Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowed out of the IPL 2022 season after a 14-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Eliminator at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 208, LSG was too slow in its approach and left too much to do in the end. The pace-duo of Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood bowled brilliantly in the final 3 overs to bag a place for RCB in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Despite the defeat, Lucknow can be happy with their effort as they are one of the two new teams added to the IPL and if their debut season is anything to go by, the franchise has a lot of potential to be successful.

Following the defeat, the team was dejected but LSG mentor, Gautam Gambhir, tried to remain upbeat and hoped that the group could come back stronger in the next season.

Hard luck today but a great tournament for our new team. We’ll come back stronger. Until we meet again!” Gambhir wrote on his Instagram account.

LSG’s poor fielding set them back in the Eliminator against RCB

After Faf du Plessis fell for a duck, RCB was in trouble. Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli began repairing the innings with the former looking in sublime touch. He deservedly got to his century but LSG would be rueing their missed chances.

KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda both dropped simple chances in the field while Manan Vohra also shelled one of Patidar when the 28-year-old was in his nineties. There were misfields as well which let RCB get away with a huge total on the board, eventually proving to be too much for the Lucknow team.
