IPL 2022: I Am Happy For Wanindu Hasaranga Taking Wickets Because He Is Like A Brother To Me – Yuzvendra Chahal

Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal displayed comradeship for competitors like Wanindu Hasaranga and Kuldeep Yadav in the race for the IPL 2022 Purple Cap.

On Sunday (May 15), Chahal regained his position as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament after getting the better of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Deepak Hooda.

Chahal finished an expensive spell with figures of 1/42 against LSG but surpassed Hasaranga’s tally of 23 wickets in the leading bowlers’ list of the tournament.

The Sri Lankan spinner bowled magnificently against Punjab Kings with 2/15 from four overs to move top on the charts.

Chahal expressed pleasure in Hasaranga and Kuldeep’s success in IPL 2022 and called the Sri Lankan wily bowler his brother.

“Whatever he’s (Hasaranga) doing, I am happy for him because he’s like a brother to me. If he takes wickets, if Kuldeep takes wickets, I am happy with that,” Chahal told official broadcasters after RR’s 24-run victory against LSG on Sunday night.

“We needed that win. For us to finish in the top-two, we had to win this match. I was a little bit disappointed with myself but I’ll definitely come back in the next game.

“When Hooda was batting so well, leg-side was shorter, I didn’t want to take any risk. I tried to bowl a couple of flighted balls, he tried to hit sixes, so I didn’t want to give any extra runs,” he added.

Just like Chahal, Hasaranga also shares a mutual respect for the Indian spinner. The Sri Lankan said he admires Chahal’s bowling.

“Yuzi and I played together for the back half of the season, so we’re excellent mates. I always admire his bowling, and he does the same for me,” Hasaranga said on RCB Bold Diaries. 

RR displaced LSG to move to the second spot in the points table while RCB’s chances for the IPL 2022 playoffs are hanging by a thread.
