IPL 2022: I Am Sure Mayank Agarwal Will Be Great As A Captain, I Will Provide Support To Him – Shikhar Dhawan

Veteran Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is confident that the new Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Mayank Agarwal will be a successful skipper.

Dhawan, who is one of the most prolific run-getters in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), was bought by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction for INR 8.25 crore and he will most likely open the innings with Mayank in the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.

Speaking to NDTV, Dhawan said that he is excited to represent the Punjab Kings franchise in the cash-rich league.

 “I am very excited to play for Punjab Kings, it is like a second home for me. I am a proper Punjabi person, it is in my blood. I am really looking forward to this season, we have a very good side. I am sure we will do good and we will end up on a winning note,” Dhawan told NDTV.

The 36-year-old said that he will provide support to PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal and was confident they will get along very well.

“Mayank is a great player and I am sure he will be great as a captain. I will provide support to him, he is a mature player, he is a senior guy. I enjoy his company, we will get along well,” he added.

Former Delhi Capitals batsman, Shikhar Dhawan, performed exceptionally well for DC during his stint with the team. He gave a lot of credit for his success to the Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting and said that he will definitely miss the company of former Australian captain.

“Coach has a big role, Ricky Ponting backed me, he is a great coach. I will miss him, I enjoyed playing under him. I had great time with Delhi Capitals. Everything has its own time. I have matured as a player, I will bring that to the table for Punjab Kings. You have to understand youngsters, you become mature after a little experience,” he said.

Dhawan also talked about U-19 sensation Raj Angad Bawa, who was bought by Punjab for INR 2 crore.

“Raj Bawa is there and I would like to meet him. I will talk to all the youngsters. I will share all my knowledge with them,” Dhawan added.
