IPL 2022: I Need To Carry Forward MS Dhoni's Big Legacy With CSK - Ravindra Jadeja

Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja said that he will have the big task of filling the shoes of MS Dhoni’s legacy as the captain of the franchise. On Thursday, Jadeja was named the captain of the four-time IPL champions after veteran player MS Dhoni stepped down from the role after leading the franchise in 12 editions of IPL.

Dhoni-led CSK in 213 IPL matches since the inception of the lucrative tournament in 2008 and under his astounding leadership, the franchise appeared in nine IPL finals and won the title on four occasions (2010, 2011, 2018 & 2021).

Jadeja has never before experienced any leadership role apart from being the vice-captain to Virat Kohli during the 2008 ICC U19 World Cup in Malaysia. The 33-year-old all-rounder aims to carry forward the legacy set by Dhoni with CSK in the cash-rich league.

MS Dhoni will be my go-to person: Ravindra Jadeja on seeking captaincy advice

The Saurashtra player will seek guidance from Dhoni on the pitch in regards to captaincy queries in the upcoming season and isn’t worried to start his new role because of the iconic player’s presence in the team.

“Feeling good at the same time I also need to fill in big boots like Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) has already set a big legacy. So I need to carry forward (it). I don’t need to worry too much because he (Dhoni) is here so whatever I have a question to ask, definitely he will be my go-to person,” Jadeja said in a video published on CSK’s official Twitter handle.

“He was and still, he is today (present with the team). So yeah I am not worried too much and thank you for all your wishes and love. Keep supporting us. Cheers!!!” he further said. 

During the IPL 2022 players’ retention list, Jadeja was retained as CSK’s first choice player for INR 16 crore while Dhoni pushed himself to the second spot with the amount of INR 12 crore. CSK will play its first match against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
