Sri Lanka National Cricket Team speedster Matheesha Pathirana, who was recently acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, has said that he would like to walk in legendary pacer Lasith Malinga’s steps and become a cricketer like him.

Chennai Super Kings roped in Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for Kiwi pacer Adam Milne for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Notably, Adam Milne suffered a hamstring injury in the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 26 and he was ruled out of the entire tournament.

Meanwhile, the young Sri Lanka pacer is known for his unique bowling action, which is very similar to the legendary pacer Lasith Malinga. Also, the 19-year-old has played two Under-19 World Cups for Sri Lanka in 2020 and 2022.

The 19-year-old said that people compare his bowling action with Malinga, who is an absolute cricket legend.

“People have started comparing my bowling action with Malinga. Actually, Malinga is a legend; not only to me but to all the worldwide cricket fans. I’d like to walk in his steps and be a cricketer like him one day,” said Pathirana.

He added that his focus is on improving his bowling style until he becomes a good cricketer.

“I have heard that people say I bowl in a different style, many address my style is slingy. I think I have improved my style when growing older and even now.

“I will be improving bowling until I become a good cricketer in Sri Lanka,” Pathirana had told bdcrictime.com in 2019 when his unique action caught the attention of social media.
