Former New Zealand and Bangalore captain Daniel Vettori have spoken out about Kohli’s poor batting form.
After collapsing to a Marco Jansen ball game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper scored his second straight golden duck.
Kohli, who lost the leadership of both India and RCB last year, has struggled to find his rhythm but still doesn’t have a load of responsibility on his shoulder. In RCB’s 8 games in the league, the prolific hitter has a 41 not out, 12, 5, 48, 1, 12, 0, 0 batting average.
His last international century came in November of this year, and his struggle to turn beginnings into large scores has led to critics highlighting his burnout. Many have also urged that the star batter take a break.
‘Virat, we trust you completely’ says Daniel Vettori:
Former New Zealand and Bangalore captain Daniel Vettori have spoken out about Kohli’s poor batsmanship, advising the franchise to give the Indian some breathing room to reclaim his mojo.
“It will be a personal decision.” Kohli’s experience and awareness of himself will determine how he manages to get out of this situation. You’ll just get in the way if you try to help, and you’ll probably say the wrong thing and alienate him. “It’s easier to just say, ‘Virat, we trust you, and we’ll see you at the end of the tournament, winning games for us,'” Vettori told ESPNcricinfo.
Bangalore’s striking performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad was also discussed by Vettori. Bangalore’s top-order was scythed through by South African bowler Marco Jansen, and the team consistently lost wickets, falling to their lowest total of the season 68 runs.
Bangalore recorded the sixth-lowest lowest total ever in IPL history while seeking an elusive IPL championship.
