IPL 2022: It's A New Team But Support Staff And Players Have Come Together Tremendously - Shubman Gill After GT Booked Final Berth

Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill was a happy man after his side chased down the competitive target of 189 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Eden Gardens in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday.

After Jos Buttler’s 56-ball 89 helped RR post 188 on the board in the first innings, it was upto the best chasing side in the league to do what they’re known for.

With contributions all around, GT managed to do so with David Miller and Hardik Pandya stitching the unbeaten match-winning partnership of 106 for the 4th wicket to take them over the line. Speaking about the victory and their path to the final, Gill credited the excellent cohesion between the management and players for the successful run.

“Kolkata has always been nice to me, fortunately, it was one of those nights where we were on the winning side, happy we are in the finals. After Saha got out, we got off to a good start in the powerplay, batting in the Eden Gardens is always fun.”

“We expected the surface to be a belter, but the ball was holding a bit and spinners were getting a bit of grip on this wicket. It’s a new team but the way the support staff and players have come together has been tremendous to watch, we are all really enjoying our cricket,” Gill was quoted as saying after the game.

Gill was one of the 3 players alongside Hardik and Rashid Khan that GT decided to secure ahead of the mega auction. However, the management ensured that he wouldn’t be carrying any added pressure despite carrying massive expectations.

“There hasn’t been any added pressure on me, I was picked (in the draft) because I have done well for my earlier franchises, I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, I just had to contribute to my team and play well for them. It was nice to watch (from the sidelines), a semi-final, and your teammates are doing the job, it was amazing,” he went on to add.
