Lasith Malinga has said that he is delighted to work with Rajasthan Royals as a bowling coach. Lasith Malinga has been roped in as the bowling coach by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2022. Malinga, who has retired from all forms of cricket, is one of the best bowlers to play IPL.

The Sri Lankan pacer was part of Mumbai Indians from IPL 2008 to IPL 2019. He also played a leading role for the team to win titles in multiple seasons. The right-arm pacer has scalped 170 wickets in IPL and is still the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.

Delighted To Be Working With Rajasthan Royals: Lasith Malinga

While speaking to ANI, Lasith Malinga opened up about working with Rajasthan Royals. He said that he is enjoying working with a team with such a talented group of bowlers.

“It is certainly a new thing for me to get into coaching and pass on my experience to the younger players. I have played this role before with Mumbai, and now I’m delighted to be working with Rajasthan Royals. It is a new place for me, but I’m enjoying my role so far working with such a talented group of bowlers,” Malinga said.

Malinga also said that he wanted to take up the coaching role last year itself, but he did not want to stay away from his family due to the bubble restrictions.

“It was actually last year that Kumar (Sangakkara) asked me if I was interested. But with COVID and all the bubble restrictions, I didn’t want to stay away from my family. But this year, having also worked with the Sri Lankan team, I felt I could use my experience and give back to the game that I love, by working with this group of players,” he said.

Lasith Malinga is one of the best pacers to play for Sri Lanka. In his international career, he has scalped 338 wickets in 226 ODIs and 101 wickets in 30 Tests. Now, he is set to start his coaching stint with Rajasthan Royals.

IPL 2022 is set to commence on March 26. In the opening match, Chennai Super Kings will play against Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajasthan Royals will play their first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 29.
