IPL 2022: Like MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya Has Knack Of Getting Best Out Of His Players – R Sai Kishore Feels GT Captain Is Junior Version Of MS Dhoni

Gujarat Titans (GT) spinner R Sai Kishore has said that there are a lot of similarities in the leadership style of legendary captain MS Dhoni and GT captain Hardik Pandya. He even labelled Hardik as a junior version of Dhoni.

Hardik was brilliant as a captain in his first season as a skipper in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under his leadership, Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 championship in their debut season and they dominated the marquee tournament.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Sai, who picked 6 wickets from 5 matches in IPL 2022, was part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 2 seasons and he just warmed the bench. However, he said that his stint with CSK helped him become a better cricketer.

“Bowling to MS Dhoni at the nets and speaking to him about the game did a world of good for me. My game-reading skills have improved,” Sai Kishore said while speaking to TOI.

He further talked about the similarities between 4-time Indian Premier League winning captain Dhoni and GT captain Hardik.

“There are a lot of similarities between the two. Much like Dhoni, Hardik has the knack of getting the best out of his players. Both put the team before themselves and that’s what you expect from your leader. I would call Hardik the junior version of Dhoni,” he said.

“It was a great season but I feel I can do better. I will want to continue improving my game in the coming months,” he further said.

Sai Kishore also talked about his spin-bowling partner at the Gujarat Titans, Rashid Khan, and said that the Afghanistan leg-spinner is a brilliant player.

“He is just brilliant in what he does. He is constantly looking to contribute — be it with the bat or ball or on the field and that’s a skill to have,” Sai Kishore mentioned.

Sai was in heavy demand at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction and after a bidding war between 6 teams, he was bought by GT for INR 3 crore.

“I was bought for good money (Rs 3 crore) from the auctions by the Titans. The catch of Quinton eased my nerves a little bit. It was important for me to repay the faith Gujarat Titans showed in me and I am happy to have done well in the opportunities I got,” Sai Kishore told TOI.

“They have played a key part in my growth as a cricketer,” Sai said while talking about his coaches R Prasanna and R Ramkumar.

“Not only on my fitness and skills, but I have also worked hard on my game awareness. I want to make each of my 24 deliveries count in a T20 game,” Sai Kishore said.
