IPL 2022: MS Dhoni And AB de Villiers Have Been The Biggest Finishers In The History Of IPL, But Dhoni Is At The Forefront – Irfan Pathan

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said that the legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni and legendary Proteas batsman AB de Villiers have been the “biggest finishers” in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Dhoni is at the forefront and he is the greatest of all time.

Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni gave up the captaincy ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, which led to many questioning his place in the CSK XI.

However, the 40-year-old has done a good job with the bat for his team and he even finished the match for CSK against Mumbai Indians in the last over by smashing boundaries to Jaydev Unadkat.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Pathan labelled Dhoni as the greatest finisher of all time in the Indian Premier League. He added that several new players are joining the list of good finishers but there will only be one ultimate finisher, which is MS Dhoni. He elaborated:

“MS Dhoni is the greatest finisher in the history of IPL. Year after year, someone else has been joining this list but no one has been able to displace Dhoni. He is the identity of this league, it’s true ambassador. MSD and AB de Villiers have been the biggest finishers in the history of IPL, but Dhoni is at the forefront of it.

“He is the greatest. If we talk about this season, it is pertinent to mention the names of Rahul Tewatia, Dinesh Karthik, and Shimron Hetmyer because they have been finishing the games continuously for their teams. But when it comes to the ultimate finisher, obviously only one name will come to the mind and that is Dhoni’s.”

Former Indian all-rounder, speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, said that even though Chennai Super Kings have struggled in the Indian Premier League 2022 no team can underestimate the defending champions as they know how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. He asserted:

“No team can make the mistake of underestimating CSK. This is a team which knows how to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This team has done it many a time and that is why it has always been the most dangerous of sides in the history of the league.”
