Former India chief selector MSK Prasad has stated that he wants the former India National Cricket Team all-format captain Virat Kohli to take a “significant break” from the game before the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 tournament.
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Kohli has scored just 216 runs in the 11 Indian Premier League 2022 games at an average of 21.60 and a very poor strike rate of 111.91, including one fifty, which came against Gujarat Titans (GT).
Virat Kohli’s highest score in the 15th edition of the cash-rich is 58, which came at a below-par strike rate. Also, Kohli has struggled to hit boundaries in the tournament as in 11 Indian Premier League 2022 games he has smashed only 20 fours and 4 sixes.
I might just try someone like Shikhar Dhawan at the opening slot and check Rahul out at No.4 – MSK Prasad
Speaking to PTI, Prasad said that the trio of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli can’t be left from the playing XI in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 if they are fit and available.
He added that India can try someone like Shikhar Dhawan to open the innings with Rohit Sharma and push KL Rahul to the No.4 spot in the T20I team.
“These three are indispensable if fit. There is no way that you can leave any one of them for the World T20. But yes, if I look at numbers, I might just try someone like Shikhar Dhawan at the opening slot and check Rahul out at No.4.
“He has a T20 hundred in Manchester some years back in middle-order, so why not. But yes, I want Virat to take a significant break and before the Asia Cup, he should be fresh, up and running,” Prasad told PTI.
Although, India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma and former India National Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli have struggled for runs in the Indian Premier League 2022 KL Rahul has looked outstanding with the bat.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain has smashed 451 runs at an average of 56.38 and a strike rate of 145.01, including 2 centuries and 2 fifties.
