They Made a Mistake By Letting Trent Boult Go: Kevin Pietersen

Mumbai Indians went hard at three particular players in the mega auctions. They spent more than 15 Crores on Ishan Kishan who has been in terrible form, then they spent over 8 crores on Jofra Archer who was always not going to be available for the season. They also spent heavily on Tim David but he hasn’t gotten many opportunities to play. All in all MI’s auction strategy has left many cricket pundits baffled.

Kevin Pietersen did not hold back while criticising the five-time champions in his column for Betway Insider, “Mumbai seem to have had their soul ripped out at the mega auction. Lots of the star players that made them what they are have left and they have made a horrible start to the competition”, wrote the former English batter.

They say that batters win you sponsorships and bowlers win you premierships. I just can’t understand why Mumbai has weakened their bowling so much by using up a spot on an injured Jofra Archer and letting Trent Boult go elsewhere,” Pietersen further added.

“Left-arm seamers are such a valuable commodity in the shorter form of the game because of the different angle and Boult is as good as it gets. He’s world-class,” he said on MI letting go of Boult.

It must be mentioned that MI did pick Jaydev Unadkat, Tymal Mills and Daniel Sams in the auction but none of these three have been able to create an impact which Trent Boult did.
