The new video shared by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on their official social media handles reveals that the franchise paid an extra INR 75 lakh for Sri Lanka star Wanindu Hasaranga at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru.
Royal Challengers Bangalore bought big players like Wanindu Hasaranga, Faf du Plessis, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Dinesh Karthik, at the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction.

The most expensive players bought by the team were Sri Lanka sensation Hasaranga and pacer Harshal Patel. Notably, the franchise had spent INR 10.75 crore to acquire the services of the two aforementioned players.
On Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore released a video, which was shot ahead of the auction, and in the video RCB’s director of cricket operations Mike Hesson labelled Hasaranga as their most important overseas purchase. It was also revealed that the Royal Challengers Bangalore had allocated a budget of INR 10 crore for Hasaranga.
“We look at Hasaranga being our most important overseas purchase. We have allocated 10 (crore) there,” Hesson said.
“Now in our mock auctions, we have averaged INR 8.5 (crore), which gives us some leeway to spend and manoeuvre this spend.
“We have to budget high because he’s such an important person. After all, there’s no one else who does the same job he does in terms of being able to bat in that role and providing that balance.”

Meanwhile, head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore Sanjay Bangar, while talking about Wanindu Hasaranga’s addition to the squad said:
“Number one is that he’s an RCB player. He’s somebody who performed exceedingly well for Sri Lanka in all matches he played. His performance in the T20 format was phenomenal, and he’s a multi-skilled player.”

If we knew we could get Yuzi, then we will try to get Yuzi – Mike Hesson

RCB’s director of cricket operations Mike Hesson, in the same video, said that they would have loved to bring back leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal to the squad.
“If we knew we could get Yuzi, then we will try to get Yuzi. We love Yuzi. The fact that he is coming up when he’s coming up, (coupled with) the volatility and the chance of getting him and with teams that have a bigger budget, it is so risky that if you end up not getting Hasaranga, you get yourself stuck. That’s the volatility and that’s a massive risk,” Hesson said
